Mackenzie Cameron Signs with University of Guelph

Go360 Racing athlete Mackenzie Cameron, and daughter of President and CEO of AGSI, Chris Cameron, signs with the University of Guelph for fall of 2016.

This signing event commemorates the next stage in Mackenzie’s academic and athletic career as a University of Guelph Gryphon.

After being courted by various Universities throughout the USA at the NCAA D1 level, Mackenzie has decided to accept her offer from the University of Guelph, the only Canadian school she applied to. The Track and Field program at University of Guelph is the top program in the Canadian Inter-University Sport (CIS). The University includes a myriad of Olympians, Olympic coaches, therapists, and is the most winningest Track and Field team of any University in CIS history.

Mackenzie’s accomplishments reach well beyond her elite athletic status as she has maintained an honour student standing throughout her attendance at Christ the King High School in Georgetown, Ontario. Prior to that Mackenzie was recognized with the Student of Excellence award upon graduating Holy Cross Catholic School.

Mackenzie’s athletic and scholastic abilities have enabled her to be awarded several scholarships from the University of Guelph. Mackenzie will receive a one-time entrance scholarship in recognition of maintaining a mid-90% average throughout high school. For her athletic endeavours Mackenzie will receive an athletic scholarship in the first year of University that will potentially continue throughout each additional year if she remains a counter on the team and a top-level elite athlete for the University.

Mackenzie has also been awarded the prestigious University of Guelph President’s Award. This award, established in 1987 in honour of their donors or distinguished members of the University, is considered one of the most prestigious entrance awards at the University of Guelph. Selection is made by demonstrated superior leadership ability and potential as evidenced through positions held, extra-curricular activities, involvement in high school and communities and reference support. A number of President’s Scholarships have been named in honour of the following people and / or donors: Cecil H. Franklin and Ingrid Franklin, Charles S. Humphrey, Jack R. Longstaffe, Burton C. Matthews, Kathleen and Frederick Metcalf, Rol-land Farms Limited, Lillian Stewart Usher. This scholarship is awarded annually for the four years of study, plus one stipend for summer research assistantship.
